Cynthia Wright

January 19, 1951 — January 10, 2026

Our Beloved

Born Cynthia Kermet Wright, the youngest daughter to parents Marjorie Allen Wright and Nelson Charles Wright Sr. She grew up in the San Juan Hill neigborhood on Manhattan's West side, which eventually became Lincoln Center. She attended PS 191 and Julia Richmond HS, where she received honors and served as president of the Honor Service League. Cynthia went on to study at Hunter College, City University of NY where she majored in Business Administration and Child Development.

Her first job was as Hunter College, City University of NY's Director of the Hunter College Child Care Center.

She later went on to a career in Banking and also volunteered her services for many organizations.

Cynthia, was a devoted advocate, woman of faith, and beloved sister, mentor, and friend, and leaves behind a legacy of courage, service, and compassion that has touched many countless lives.

Cynthia’s journey as an advocate heightened when she moved from New York City to Boston following her diagnosis with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). In search of advanced care, she chose the Lupus Center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, where she met fellow lupus patient Bobbie Drake-Saucer, co-founder of Women of Courage, Inc. Their shared experiences confronting delayed and inaccurate lupus diagnoses ignited a powerful commitment to patient advocacy.

Cynthia was a long-term member of the Women of Courage, Inc. (WOC) Lupus Support Group, where she served for many years as Walk Coordinator and Team Captain for multiple Lupus Walks. Her leadership, determination, and generosity of spirit made her an anchor within the lupus community and a tireless champion for those navigating chronic illness.

She believed strongly that patients deserved coordinated, multidisciplinary care and demanded that her own providers work as a team to improve her quality of life. Through this advocacy, she became acutely aware that many others did not have access to the same level of care—and she worked relentlessly to help change that reality.

Once Women of Courage was established, Cynthia took it upon herself to ensure members had access to the most accurate and current information about lupus. With characteristic determination and warmth, she persuaded her own healthcare providers to present at support group meetings, health fairs, and lupus awareness seminars. Many of her Lupus Walk donors were also her care providers—a testament to her resolve, her relationships, and her unmistakable moxie.

For many years, Cynthia staffed the booths at Lupus Walks, mentored new members, served as a Lupus Buddy, and stood as a true MVP of the organization. She led with humility, and gave generously of her time and energy so that others would feel seen, supported, and empowered.

In addition to her advocacy work, Cynthia held a deep faith that sustained her through joy and hardship alike. She was cherished by her family, friends, and community, and will be remembered for her strength, warmth, humor, and unwavering commitment to justice and care.

She is survived by her sister, Nelsena and brother in law Ralph, her sister, Marjorie, her brother, Nelson and sister in law Renee, her devoted niece Keisha and nephews David and Eric, and a host of cousins, great niece and nephews, and a great great niece and nephew.

She's also survived by her dear friends Gail and Janice.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.

Amen.
