Darrell Speller

October 28, 1970 — January 21, 2026

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Darrell Tyrone Speller, who left this world on January 21, 2026, at the age of 55. Darrell was a devoted husband, a loving and proud father, an incredible grandfather known lovingly as "Papa," a cherished brother, and a loyal friend to so many.

Darrell was the heart of his family. He was steady, kind, and comforting-someone you could always count on. As a husband, he was a true partner and best friend: patient, supportive, and deeply devoted. As a father, he led with strength, wisdom, and unconditional love, leaving behind lessons that will carry on for generations. Becoming a grandfather changed his life in the most beautiful way. His joy, laughter, and playful spirit filled every room, and the bond he shared with his grandchildren was truly special and unmatched.

Born on October 28, 1970, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, to the late Edna Mae and Buck Speller, Darrell lived a life grounded in love, faith, and family. He had an infectious sense of humor, a generous heart, and a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. Whether you knew him for years or just met him, Darrell made you feel like family. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and warmth wherever he went.

Music was a part of Darrell's soul. His love for it began at just three years old and was nurtured through church and family. He first sang in a gospel group called Soul Revivals with his brothers, cousin, and sister. Later, he joined The Master Keys, a gospel group formed with his father and brothers, where he played the drums. Completely self-taught, Darrell learned to play multiple instruments, including drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, harmonica, and keyboard.

As his musical journey grew, Darrell produced music for various artists and became part of several rap groups, including 3-D Crew, Krush MCs, Down By Law, HQB, and Joint Ventures. Through music, he built lifelong friendships and helped uplift the Boston hip-hop scene. Music was never just something he did-it was who he was, a powerful expression of his heart and creativity.

Outside of music, Darrell was known for his hands-on skills. He was a gifted handyman and self-taught carpenter who could fix or build just about anything. He took pride in his work and never hesitated to help someone in need. During his 21 years at RJV, Darrell was respected for his dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic.

Above all else, Darrell treasured being a grandfather. His grandsons were his greatest joy, his pride, and his happiness. His love for them was deep, pure, and unconditional. It showed in every smile, every story, every lesson, and every moment they shared. They were the light of his later years, and his love for them will live on forever.

Darrell leaves behind his loving wife, Danielle McNeil-Speller; his children, Darrell T. Speller and Darien T. Speller; his daughter-in-law, Samariah Batts-Speller; his grandchildren, Darrell (DJ) T. Speller, Dion T. Speller, Samar T. Speller, and Sai T. Speller; his mother-in-law, Mary McNeil; his siblings Curtis Speller, Sandra Speller, Edna J. Speller, Ray and Terri Speller, Ronnie Speller, Eric and Sheila Speller, Rhonda Scott, Kevin and Anna Speller; his brothers-in-law William McNeil, Daniel McNeil, and Tramont McNeil; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply. He was preceded in death by his brother Dale Speller, his father-in-law Daniel McNeil, and his brother-in-law Curtis McNeil.

Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the life Darrell lived and the love he gave so freely. His spirit will continue to live on through his family, his music, the values he passed down, and the countless lives he touched.

Darrell will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
