Doreen "Pudden"
Pierce-Scott
Feb 28, 1957 — Aug 27, 2026
On August 27, 2026, the formidable Doreen Pierce-Scott, affectionately known as "Pudden" and most famously as "Nanny," left the physical world to take her rightful place among the stars. Rest assured, Nanny is already running things up there.
Nanny was born on February 28, 1957, to Albert Pierce Sr. of Augusta, Georgia, and Mary Pierce [Williams] of Sanford, Florida. She was part of a lively family that guaranteed there was never a dull moment. Nanny grew up with 10 siblings: Rosemary Black, Albert Pierce Jr., Benjamin Pierce, Anthony Pierce, Barbara Ann Pierce, twin sister Darlene Pierce, Lawrence Pierce, Willie Pierce (deceased), Elizabeth "Tootsie" Pierce (deceased), and Gregory Pierce (deceased).
Nanny spent her formative years in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, where she developed the unmistakable personality that would define her for the rest of her life. She attended Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School and later English High School.
For more than twenty years, Nanny worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital. MGH also brought her and her husband, Milton “Scotty” Scott, together. Scotty spent over twenty years working for MGH in their maintenance department. Nanny dedicated herself to caring for others. She spent her career helping people through some of life's most difficult moments. She left a lasting impact on countless patients, so much so that she often received gifts from her patients or their families. Caring for others wasn't just her profession; it was who she was.
Nanny loved to travel. Whether she was visiting her children in Atlanta, going on a sisters' trip, or exploring the sights of countries like Italy, she enjoyed every opportunity to be on the go. She was so excited to travel that she would have her boarding pass printed weeks in advance and show up at the airport about four hours before her flight.
Nanny brought that same adventurous spirit home, where she loved hosting family gatherings. Family was always at the center of Nanny's life. Her home served as a gathering spot and, at times, an extended-stay hotel for relatives who needed a little help getting back on their feet. She gave generously, often putting others' needs before her own.
Nanny leaves behind a legacy and lineage that will stand the test of time. She is survived by her husband Milton “Scotty” Scott, daughter Cassandra Pierce; son Rodney Pierce and daughter-in-law Jackeline Ubiles-Pierce; and son Tyrone Pierce and his partner, Misty Baker.
She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Dexter Rowell, the original grandchild, and his wife, Kailla Rowell, the culinary one; Taiye Taylor, the thoughtful one; Tai Miller, the handsome one; Ian Pierce, the studious one; Jannah Pierce, the athletic one; and Journi Pierce, the artistic one. Each brought a special joy to her life and gave her endless reasons to brag.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandson, Amar Rowell, who Nanny shared her affinity for candy and chips with, often. Her "Little Man" will miss her dearly.
She will also be lovingly remembered through her former husband, Rodney Clements (deceased), and by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and brothers & sisters in law who will miss her tremendously. Nanny was preceded in death by her beloved nephews James Pierce, Colby Tyler, and Wayne Pierce.
Nanny maintained what seemed like five different Facebook accounts, ensuring that no family update escaped her notice. Whether it was an intentional strategy or repeated battles with forgotten passwords remains one of our great mysteries.
Nanny was also a shopper of uncommon talent. She possessed a finely tuned eye for furniture and appliances. She approached bargain hunting like a seasoned professional. She was one of QVC's most loyal supporters and, in recent years, discovered a new passion: Instagram ads. While most people scrolled past them, Nanny saw them for what they truly were: personal recommendations from trusted sources. If a product promised to revolutionize daily life, she was willing to give it a chance. We have the air fryers to prove it.
To know Pudden was to know generosity, and unconditional love. Her family finds comfort in knowing that somewhere above, Nanny is watching over them with that trademarked look.
And if heaven has Wi-Fi, she's probably already logged into all five Facebook accounts!
