Emmerline Foote, Esq., was born on May 2, 1955, to John C. Foote and Monticello Foote in Boston, Massachusetts. Emmerline was the youngest child of the Foote family, a bright, curious, and warm-spirited soul whose presence left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew her. Affectionately known as "Buzzy" to her beloved family, she carried a light that touched every life she encountered.
Education was not just an achievement for Emmerline; it was her passion and purpose. She graduated from Jeremiah Burke High School in 1973. After high school, she matriculated at Yale College, earning an undergraduate degree in Sociology in 1977, and later fulfilled her dream of studying law at Howard University School of Law, graduating in 1986, where she proudly called herself a Bison. Emmerline was admitted to the California Bar on June 6, 1989; not only was this her proudest moment, but it was also the culmination of years of determination, resilience, and self-reliance.
Emmerline built a remarkable career as Chief Assistant City Attorney for the City of Inglewood, in the state she had grown to love and call home for more than 30 years: California. She loved the law deeply and carried out her work with integrity, intelligence, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Her professional journey is a testament to her go-getter spirit; she set her sights high, worked tirelessly, and achieved every goal she set for herself.
Beyond her accomplishments, Emmerline will be remembered most for her kindness, warmth, and fearless pursuit of life. When not working for justice, she could be found enjoying life to the fullest through shopping, traveling the world with her sisters, reading, and embracing new experiences. She was fiercely independent, adventurous, and always true to herself. Her beloved dogs, Case and Brief, brought her immeasurable happiness, and she cared for them with the same devotion and tenderness she gave to her family.
Emmerline was the logical, steady voice in the family; the sister and aunt who listened, supported, mediated, and encouraged without judgment. She believed in the power of education and pushed the next generation to reach higher, dream bigger, and never let fear stop them. She poured into her nieces and nephews, reminding them that they could accomplish anything with discipline and passion.
To her family, she was more than a sister or aunt; she was a connector, a source of wisdom, a spark of laughter, and a reminder that life is meant to be lived fully. She brought people together, uplifted others with her humor, and inspired everyone with her confident, classy, and regal presence.
Emmerline is preceded in death by her father, John C. Foote; her mother, Monticello Foote; her sisters, Jessie Williams, Nadine Robinson, and Vivian Foote; her nephew, Anthony Thomas Foote; and her beloved mixed terriers, Brief and Case.
She is survived by her brother, John C. Foote, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, and colleagues, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Emmerline leaves behind a legacy of brilliance, compassion, and fearlessness. She lived life on her own terms, chased her dreams with courage, and loved her family deeply and unconditionally. Her impact will continue to guide and strengthen those who loved her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
