Our Beloved 

Floripa Barbosa DePina, lovingly known to many as “Mama di Prentxinha,” passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at the remarkable age of 104.

Floripa was born on February 5, 1922, in Piquinho, Fogo, Cabo Verde. She spent most of her adult life in Praia, where she built a life centered around family, resilience, and community. In 1998, she migrated permanently to the United States, continuing to be a guiding presence and beloved matriarch to generations of her family.

Mama di Prentxinha was known for her strong will, determination, and unwavering love for her family. She was the foundation of her family, a woman whose strength and wisdom shaped the lives of those around her. She took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, especially her grandsons and great-grandsons, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

In her later years, she found great joy attending the Adult Daycare Center, where she formed many friendships, shared laughter, and created lasting memories with those around her. Her warm spirit and lively presence made her loved by many both within and beyond her family.

She leaves behind a large and loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her two daughters, Fatuca and Lena, and her four sons, Du, Angelo, Belmiro, and Nene. She also leaves behind her younger sister, Antonia, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her deeply. She was the proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren and blessed with an abundance of great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the legacy of love, strength, and unity she created.

Mama di Prentxinha’s life was a testament to strength, perseverance, and the power of family. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched over her 104 years.

Floripa nasceu no dia 5 de fevereiro de 1922, em Piquinho, Fogo, Cabo Verde. Passou a maior parte de sua vida adulta na Praia, onde construiu uma vida baseada na família, na perseverança e na comunidade. Em 1998, emigrou permanentemente para os Estados Unidos, continuando a ser uma presença orientadora e uma matriarca querida por várias gerações de sua família.

Mama di Prentxinha era conhecida por sua forte determinação, força de vontade e profundo amor pela família. Ela foi o alicerce de sua família, uma mulher cuja força e sabedoria marcaram a vida de todos ao seu redor. Sentia grande alegria em passar tempo com seus netos, especialmente com seus netos e bisnetos, que lhe traziam grande orgulho e felicidade.

Nos seus anos mais avançados, encontrou muita alegria ao frequentar o Centro de Convivência para Idosos (Adult Daycare Center), onde fez muitas amizades, compartilhou risadas e criou memórias duradouras com as pessoas ao seu redor. Seu espírito acolhedor e sua presença marcante fizeram com que fosse muito querida por muitos, tanto dentro quanto fora de sua família.

Ela deixa para trás uma grande e amorosa família que sempre guardará sua memória com carinho, incluindo suas duas filhas, Fatuca e Lena, e seus quatro filhos, Du, Angelo, Belmiro e Nene. Deixa também sua irmã mais nova, Antonia, além de muitos sobrinhos e sobrinhas que a adoravam profundamente. Também deixa 22 netos e uma abundância de bisnetos, todos os quais carregam consigo o legado de amor, força e união que ela construiu ao longo de sua vida.

A vida de Mama di Prentxinha foi um testemunho de força, perseverança e do poder da família. Seu legado continuará vivo através das muitas vidas que ela tocou ao longo de seus 104 anos.
