Obituary

George Nicholson Reese, son of the late Robert Reese (The Black Rider) and Ola Mae Lynch-Reese, was born September 16, 1942 in Richmond County, Augusta, GA.

In George Nicholson Reese's own words throughout the years.. "Master Gunnery Sergeant Reese (Rico) at the age of 18 left Augusta, Georgia in 1962 after graduating from Lucy Laney High School and migrated to Boston, MA. Rico and his family members (James White, Wesley Snipes, and John Albert headed north riding in Rico's blue & white 1952, 88 hard top Oldsmobile.

James White, and Wesley Snipes were dropped off in New Jersey. Rico and John Albert continued their journey to Boston. Living in Boston for three years Rico turned 21 and was hired at the Life Time Comb Company as a Middle Machine Operator. One day, Rico was riding on the MB TA train and someone picked his pocket and stole his wallet. Having a new job Rico and his friends wanted to have fun one night. They got out of their car, went to the door of a night club and the Bouncer only asked for Rico's ID. He didn't have an ID and the Bouncer didn't bother to ask his friends for IDs. Rico's friends went inside the club and he returned to his car, the blue & white 1952, 88 hard top Oldsmobile. Rico was in his car thinking that his friends were having a good time. Also, he thought about how his friends were able to get inside the club but he could not. Rico was later told that he looked younger than his friends, but he was the oldest. Rico went to the Selective Service Office to get an ID. He received his ID in the mail and not only did he receive his ID but a DRAFT notice for the military as well. Rico and his friend Vernal Simmons went to the recruiting Office on Columbia Road and Bird Street. There were only two Recruiting Officers there, an Army and a Marine. First Rico approached the Army Officer. Earlier, Rico had heard on the news that many military personnels were getting wounded and losing their lives in Vietnam. So, Rico asked the Army Recruiting Officer what would happen if he got wounded or lost his life in combat. The Army Recruiting Officer had a roll of 3 cent stamps and envelopes on the desk. He stated to Rico that he would put a stamp on one of the envelopes and drop it in the mail for the next person to enlist to take his place. Rico being an energetic young man did not appreciate the answer. Therefore, Rico looked at the other Officer and thought he was dressed in a marching band outfit. Therefore Rico repeated the same question to the Marine Recruiting Officer. The Marine Recruiting Officer said son you don't have to worry about that because the United States Marines Corp NEVER leaves a man behind and we will bring you back alive or dead. Rico said to the Officer Okay could you sign me up.

Rico served in the United States Marine Corps as a Communicator for four years. After Rico's enlistment was up, The Marine Corps wanted him to sign up for another 4 years. Rico was trying to raise his family at that time and joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve to help train others. While Rico was in Vietnam, John Wayne visited the Marine Base and Rico took a picture with the big "Duke". Rico tried to get an enlarged copy of the picture from a photography studio in Mattapan Square but they lost the picture. The Marine Troop in DaNang said to John Wayne and Gunnery Carter (From the T. V show USMC Gomer Pile) you must meet RICO, he is our cool communicator operator. Rico helped train the Troops to prepare for the Gulf Storm and Desert Storm."

Rico was a lifelong learner. He attended Newman Prep College, Roxbury Community College, Northeastern University College of Criminal Justice, and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Constables Educational Seminars at Massachusetts Bay Constable Association, Inc. and Southern Bureau of Investigation, Inc. Rico was employed by Boston Edison, NStar and Eversource Electric Company (Overhead Trouble Shooter) for nearly 55 years. He was also a Boston City Constable for approximately 30 years, Massachusetts Bay Constable Association, and a Private Investigator for approximately 30 years. Rico was a member of the Massachusetts Private Investigator Association (Ret), MA Notary, Mass Bay Constable Association, Boston Constable Association, Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Boston Ret), Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, National Rifle Association, United States Marine Corps League, Veterans of Boston (Williams E. Carter American Legion Post #16, and Boston Police VFW Post 1018).
