Henrietta Oparah

Jan 19, 1959 — Aug 8, 2026

Henrietta Oparah, born January 19, 1959, was a devoted mother, beloved sister, adoring grandmother, trusted friend and counselor to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was the daughter of the late Carrie & Hillary Rhodes, and was born in Waynesboro, Georgia but spent the bulk of her life in Boston, Massachusetts-a city she loved dearly and proudly considered home. She often reminded those around her that she was a Bostonian at heart.

To those who knew her best, Henrietta was lovingly known as "Hen". She had a big heart, a feisty spirit, and a genuine gift for making others laugh, feel cared for and welcomed. Being surrounded by family was one of the greatest joys of her life, and she cherished every opportunity to celebrate, encourage, and pour love into those she held dear. Henrietta's desire to help and encourage others extended beyond her family and into her professional life. For more than 20 years, she counseled and supported individuals struggling with substance use, never wavering in her commitment to those in need.

Over the course of her life, she faced a number of medical challenges, meeting each one with remarkable strength, courage, and faith. Her love for the Lord was a source of comfort and strength, and her faith remained an important part of who she was. She shared that faith through the way she lived, the counsel she offered, and the compassion she showed to those around her.

Henrietta is preceded in death by her beloved parents, her son Perry Hughes Jr., and siblings, George, Michael, Charlie Rhodes, Hillary Hankerson Jr., and Anna Rhodes-Weddon. She was a proud mother to Tremeka Sanders (Roderick), Kenitra Nichols, Kelechi Oparah and Fernanda Cooper. As well as a loving "Grammie" to Kirsten Sanders, Bryce Sanders, Evan Sanders, Kendall Nichols and Phoenix Cooper who brought her so much joy.

She leaves behind a large and loving family, including her siblings: Emma Rhodes, Allen Rhodes, Julia Moore, Patricia Jones, Mickey Rhodes, Cynthia Tolbert, Tonya Rhodes, Doris Gaines, Lorraine Carswell (Greg), Earnestine Pacquette, Evelyn Hankerson, Mattie Roberson, Christopher Hankerson (Roxanne), Bob Hankerson (Renee). She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cherished friends, and countless others who will carry her memory in their hearts.

She is now at peace and in the presence of the Lord.
