A Life of Service, Scholarship, Brotherhood, Leadership, and Love
James T. Kimble Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, scholar, and servant-leader, peacefully entered eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy enriched by faith, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others. James Kimble was born on June 14,1946 in Greensboro, NC, to James T. Kimble Sr. and Nellie Alston Kimble.
Born with a natural curiosity and a desire to experience the fullness of life, James grew into a man whose footsteps crossed the country, whose work touched communities nationwide, and whose influence shaped generations.
From a young age, James carried a burning fascination for the world beyond the borders of Greensboro, North Carolina. Inspired by the heroes of the Western frontier, he developed a lifelong spirit of adventure and discovery. That spirit guided him through academia, public service, and a distinguished professional career that spanned decades.
A proud graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, James began his life's work in service as a member of Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA). His early assignments in Georgia shaped his understanding of human need, systemic challenges, and the power of advocacy. His VISTA experience remained one of the most enlightening and defining seasons of his life.
James later embarked on a rich professional journey, which included contributions to nuclear emergency preparedness, DNA research, biomedical development, and human resources strategy for both non-profit and corporate sectors. His work with organizations such as GEO-CENTERS, Inc., GTC Biotherapeutics, Red Cross and JTK Human Capital Consulting demonstrated his versatility, brilliance, and commitment to innovation. With a career extending over 35 years, he spent many years leading teams, supporting scientific advancement, and mentoring emerging professionals.
Service was not only James's vocation - it was his calling. A lifelong and dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he was initiated into the Las Vegas Alumni Chapter on June 13, 1975. Through the Las Vegas, Berkeley, and Boston Alumni Chapters, he served in numerous capacities including Chapter Reporter, Polemarch, Board Member, Committee Chair, President of the Greater Boston Kappa Charitable Foundation, and proud leader of GBKC's signature programs and events. He played an instrumental role in developing scholarship opportunities, community service activities, historical archives, and chapter excellence initiatives. His fraternity honored him multiple times for his outstanding and devoted service.
James's heart, however, found its greatest joy in family. While traveling throughout the United States, he remained grounded through the love of his beautiful and accomplished daughter and his treasured grandchildren. He later married the love of his life, Mrs. Juanita Kimble, his partner, best friend, and unwavering supporter. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, compassion, shared purpose, and the simple joy of being present with one another. Their union was a testament to enduring partnership and mutual encouragement.
Deeply reflective, and scholarly, James spent his retirement pursuing genealogical research, family history, and writing. He delighted in uncovering ancestral truths, documenting stories, and preserving the threads of legacy for future generations. His goal was to publish his research - a dream fueled by passion and purpose.
Known for his wisdom, humility, integrity, and gentle strength, James approached life with gratitude. He embraced the fullness of each season - the triumphs, the challenges, and the transitions that shape the human experience. Even in his final chapters, he remained a man of grace, humor, and hope.
James is preceded in death by his beloved parents: James T. Kimble Sr & Nellie Alston Kimble and siblings: Cornella Smith, Nathaniel Alston, Evelyn Alston and step-daughter April Breonta Porter.
James will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, served faithfully, and gave generously. His legacy lives on through his beloved wife Juanita Kimble, his daughter, Anika Kimble-Huntley, grandchildren: Ryan, Sean and Alexis Gaskins, and his beloved Stepchildren: Greg McWilliams, Michael McWilliams, Pier Porter, Bridgette D’Ann Porter, and Van Porter.
James leaves his extended family, fraternity brothers, colleagues, and countless lives touched by his mentorship and friendship.
