In Loving Memory of John Nascimento Gomes

Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.

John Nascimento Gomes - beloved brother, father, uncle, and grandfather - passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, the 8th of August surrounded by his loved ones and friends. He was 91 years old.

Born on March 24, 1935 in Fajã de Baixo on the island of São Nicolau in Cabo Verde, John was the beloved child of Raimundo João Gomes and Maria Nascimento Gomes, well known by loved Nho Rumundinho e Nha Maninha. Throughout his life, John was known for his exceptional work ethic, tenacity, strength, and sense of humor that brought laughter to all.

John dedicated his life to family, work, and financial independence. He spent his career dedicating 25 years of facilities services to Boston Medical Center (Boston City Hospital) and another 15 years of service with America Biltrite Manufacturing Company. He was honored for his countless years of service and impeccable reliability. He also held onto his love for his home island and whenever possible brought Cabo Verdean culture to life here - along the way informally becoming Roxbury's finest farmer.

Above all, John cherished his family. He was a devoted brother and father and took great joy in sharing his Cabo Verde memories with all who would listen. John is survived by his wife Ermelinda, 4 sisters, 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jack.
