Johnny Varnell Bailey

April 9, 1951- August 15, 3023

Johnny Varnell Bailey was born In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 9, 1951, to his loving parents, Thomas Bailey and Mae Lizzie Bailey (who preceded him in death). His mother moved the family to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1956 when he was 5 years old. Johnny attended school in Boston. He grew up to be a very productive and charismatic young man. As a young adult, Johnny entered Job Corps, where he became a Coreman Leader. He served in this role for 25 years over the young men.While in Job Corps, he met Flora S. King and decided to leave Job Corps to get married and start a family. Johnny and Flora were blessed with their first son, Shinn Varnell Bailey, and a year later, their daughter, Shonda Renae Bailey. Although Johnny and Flora later divorced, he loved spending time with his family.Johnny was also known as Fishmonger and had a long professional career at Blairs Fish Market and Simons Fish Market in Dudley Square, Roxbury, MA.

On early morning of Tuesday, August 15, 2023, God called Johnny home, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Shonn V. Bailey loving parents father Thomas Bailey and mother, Mae Lizzie Bailey; His late siblings, Cornelius Bailey, and Dolores Bailey; and niece, Latoya Bailey.

Johnny is survived by his daughter, Shonda R. Bailey of Richmond, Virginia. Grandchildren Shanice Lucas- Whitley, Immanuel Bailey, Christopher Williams, Chonn Corey Pressy, Isaiah Mathews, and seven Great-Grandchildren. Sister Betty Terell, Janice Cummings (Kary), Anjail Manna-Mohommed, Brothers Barry Bailey (Evette), and Clarke Bailey (Seane), all of Boston, MA. Loving aunt Cora Reynolds, Nephews Curtis Bailey, and Shonna Santos. His longtime companion, Lorraine Young of New Bedford, MA. And a host of grand nieces, grandnephews, cousins, in-law and friends.
