Kattie Bee Coleman was a multi-generational woman of valor.
In Proverbs 3:1, a Woman of Valor is described as "A woman more precious than Rubies to her husband." She is the cornerstone and backbone of her children. She is a pillar and honored member in her community. For those of us who knew Kattie, this is the absolute bare minimum what Mom was.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina January 23rd, 1934. Her Mother, Beatrice and Father, Jesse Walker predeceased her in death as well as her five older siblings, Ola May, Geneva, Jesses Jr., John aka Doc, and Bertha May.
Kattie and William Coleman Sr. married in August 1950 and remained married for 61 years until his passing January 2011. Together they had five children. Valerie (Lionel Hampton) from Boston, MA, Veronica (Floyd Simmon), from Coral Springs, FL, Claudia, also preceded in death from Orangeburg, SC, Robin from Las Vegas, NV and William Jr, aka Skip from Brooklyn Center, MN. Kattie has been blessed with six grandchildren, Isaac, David, Peter, Johnathan, Camron, and Alyxandria aka Alyx and four great grandchildren, Isana, Kelsey, Savannah and Amani.
Kattie was educated through the Mt. Vernon, NY Public School system. Later in life she acquired an associate’s degree from Bronx Community College and a degree in Swedish Massage from the Swedish Massage Institute of New York.
Ruth 1:16-17, Naomi advised her daughter in-law to return to her home. Ruth decided not to leave, but to stay with Naomi. So has Kattie followed Ruth's example. As a military wife, Kattie packed the family up for every relocation William was assigned both state side and abroad. This included both in and outside of the United States. When William completed his military service they returned to Mt. Vernon, NY.
Kattie began a new season in her life....as a self-employed business owner of Robin's Hosiery and Lingerie. Her ultimate sacrifice was giving one of her kidneys to her daughter, Claudia during her terminal illness. For fun, she was a Girl Scout Leader and active in many Ministries to support her children and the children of the Church.
May her life be a blessing to us all and may she rest in eternal Peace.
