Kenneth Amos Herbert

April 11, 1934 — February 15, 2026

OUR BELOVED

Trustee Kenneth Herbert, affectionately known as “Kenny,” was born in the parish of St. Michael, Barbados, on 04/11/1934 to the late Irene Herbert and Charles Dowell. He received his early education in St. Michael at Montgomery School.

Kenny was married to the late Gwendolyn Fenty, and from this union, four children were born. In 1970, he immigrated to Boston, where he built a life filled with hard work, faith, and family. He was most recently employed as a Housekeeping Supervisor at UMASS Boston. He retired in 2015, concluding a long and fulfilling career marked by dedication and professionalism.

Kenny was known for his sharp sense of style and his deep love for worshiping God. He found great joy in singing with the Brotherhood Choir at Holy Tabernacle Church, uplifting the hearts of all who heard him. Kenny was rarely seen without a warm smile, and he loved sharing laughter and good times with his friends.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Kenny is preceded in death by his daughter Marlene Scottland (September 21, 2006) and six siblings: Berti Dowell, Beatrice Dowell (Baby), Margery Dowell, Nicey Dowell, Clyde Dowell and Myrtle Wood.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted family: his children, Margaret Phillips, Michael Phillips, Wendy Fenty, David Fenty Sr., Richard Fenty and stepson Leroy Fenty (Rudelle Fenty); his grandchildren, Jessica Fenty Scottland, Olivia Fenty, David Fenty Jr., Jada Fenty, Elijah Gelin, Emmanuel Gelin, Lia JnLeys, and Lionel JnLeys; his two great-grandchildren, Russell and Gabby; his nieces Sandra Herbert, Elaine Hunte (Clyde Hunte), Betty Thevenin (Carl Thevenin); nephew Anthony Herbert (Lori Herbert) and his dear friend, Rosetta Walker and numerous family members in Barbados.
