Leyamani Athena Hatten Winspeare-Alves arrived in this world on December 14th at 12:45 a.m., a beautiful light born into a journey filled with complexity, courage, and love. From the beginning, her story was not easy—she was misdiagnosed with multiple conditions before birth, and upon arrival, she was further diagnosed with several abnormalities. But none of these challenges ever defined her. Leya remained a fighter every step of the way.
Despite her health complications, Leyamani was a radiant soul, deeply loved by her devoted parents, Jhaneh and Isiah, who never stopped advocating for her. They worked tirelessly, meeting with doctors and specialists, determined to find a path to healing for their precious daughter.
Though Leya was never able to come home, many family members were blessed with the opportunity to visit her. She brought joy with her sweet scent, welcoming smile, and expressive, feisty gaze. She loved hearing the voices of her family, listening to music, and having her head gently rubbed. The nurses and doctors who cared for her always admired her incredible bow collection—Minnie Mouse had nothing on Leya.
Leyamani was the youngest of four siblings. She is survived by her big sister Emani and her two older brothers, Ky’mani and Zaeh’mani. She also leaves behind four god-siblings, all of whom will carry her memory in their hearts.
Her beautiful eyes, tiny blinks, and fierce spirit left an unforgettable mark on everyone who met her. Though her time here wasn’t as long as we hoped and prayed for she was fearless and brave a true miracle. Her name was Leyamani. Leya meaning “weary one” or “lioness,” was fitting. She embodied strength, sass, and grace, and she taught her loved ones the true meaning of resilience.
On Juneteenth, a day of freedom and remembrance, our sweet girl gained her wings. While her physical presence is no longer with us, her name and her spirit live on forever. She may not be here in body, but she lives through me (Jhaneh Noel) and those who love her endlessly.
The love she gave to others and the love she received from her family was boundless. She leaves behind Grandparents (Love, Leticia, Akia , Rig, Walter and Micheal, Jr) Great grandparents (Wanda, Laurna, Cora, Leila,Roy, and Micheal, Great great grandparent (Pearlie and George Sr), Aunts and Uncles (Naijhalek, Khalia, Alagi, Walter Jr, Keyshawn, Chase, Xavier, and Khalil). She is now with three loving great grand parents, Clifton, Sara, and Adelina. Her presence lives with a wild Uncle Guyton and a protective Aunt Zenodia.
Long live Leyamani. Rest peacefully, my sweet girl. Fly high, tiny toes. We love you always.
