Lucille "Fufu" Howe, 73, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts. During her final days, she was surrounded by the love and support of her children and grandchildren.
Lucille, affectionately known as "Fufu" or "Ma Luce," was born on November 14, 1952, in Grand Bay, Dominica, to Maria Warrington and Lance Dominique (both deceased). She was the second youngest of sixteen siblings.
In her early adult years, Lucille welcomed her first child, Randy. Seeking better opportunities to provide for him, she left Dominica while he was still very young and moved to St. Thomas. After living there for several years, she relocated to St. Croix, where she worked as a domestic worker. While in St. Croix, she met and married her husband, James Howe (deceased), and welcomed her second child, Gailisher. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Texas and, a year later, settled in Louisiana, where they welcomed their daughter, Tanya, and son, James Howe Jr. During those years, Lucille devoted herself to supporting her husband and raising their growing family as a homemaker.
Eventually, Lucille returned to St. Thomas, where she began a career as a stewardess at The Westin St. John Resort, faithfully serving for more than 30 years until her retirement. After retiring, she relocated to Boston to be closer to her loved ones. During her time there, she enjoyed watching her favorite game shows, taking walks in the nearby park, and making regular trips to the store to play her lottery tickets.
Lucille was a loving, generous, and kind-hearted woman who expressed her love through cooking. Her love language was Acts of Service, and whenever she had the opportunity, she shared her delicious meals with family, friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. She took great pride in her cooking and often prepared meals for visitors on her days off. She especially loved cooking for her grandchildren and delighted in watching them enjoy every bite, making sure they never left the table hungry. Always selfless, Lucille would gladly give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. If you were ill, she would lovingly prepare one of her trusted home remedies to help you feel better. She also had a wonderful sense of humor and could brighten any gathering with a joke or a funny story, bringing laughter to everyone around her.
For many years, Bovoni “On the Hill” in St. Thomas was home. Lucille became a beloved and familiar presence in the community. Her apartment was ideally situated, making it a welcoming place where neighbors, friends, and passersby would often stop to visit and chat with "Fufu." Her many years there reflected the deep love she had for her community and the close friendships she shared with fellow St. Thomians and Dominicans.
She was a helping hand when needed, especially within the Wasseen Dominic community, where she became well known for preparing her famous goat water and callaloo soups for community events and gatherings. In the early years of the Sunday Ball Field tradition, she enjoyed attending and being among her friends, sharing laughter, friendship, and creating unforgettable memories with everyone around her.
Lucille was a patient, strong, and resilient woman who rarely complained and was always grateful for what she had. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose kindness touched countless lives and whose memory will never be forgotten. Even during her illness, she seldom complained, choosing instead to face each day with remarkable courage, grace, and quiet dignity. Her strength was quiet, her resilience unwavering, her gratitude constant, and her love unforgettable.
Lucille's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Lucille is survived by her children, Randy Alcendor, Gailisher Kimble, Tanya Howe, and James (Tommy) Howe Jr.;her daughter-in-law, Andrea Tamar-Howe; her stepdaughter, Linda (Denise) Lake; her grandchildren, James Thomas Howe III, J'Layah Howe, J'Meson Howe, Nia Knights, and Jasme Howe; her sisters, Patricia Merrifield, Florence Charles, and Elizabeth Dominique, and Mary Dominique; her extended family, Heather Belle, Leroy Dominique, Caroline Dominique, Marlon Liverpool, Nayoka Liverpool, Michael Liverpool, Kelmah Liverpool, Marcel Leatham, Irvin Dominique, Jason Dominique, Magdaline Ilfill, Elsa Proctor, Darlington Proctor, Ashford Proctor, Franklin Proctor, along with many other cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives too numerous to mention, including her “Behekua” family, the Proctor family in Canefield, and the Letang, Dominique, Desabaye and the LaFleur family in Pichelin, Dominica. She also leaves behind her dear family/friends, including, but not limited to, Lucienne Angol, Paul Alexander, Dorcas Alexander, Martha Alexander and Nilca Castro.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maria Warrington and Lance Dominique, and her siblings, Eugene Proctor, Virginia Dominique, Anthony Dominique, Victor Dominique, Henry Dominique, Patrick Dominique, Jones Dominique, Moses Dominique, Joseph Dominique, Cecilia Dominique, and Do-Do Dominique.
“Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she shared, the meals she prepared, the laughter she inspired, and the lives she touched will remain with us forever.”
Tributes
Dear Mom, it’s tough having to write this, but here it goes. Thank you for every sacrifice you made, every lesson you taught me, and the endless love you gave me. I will definitely miss calling you to make you laugh about old times or even just to hear your voice. Your laughter, your wisdom, and your joyful giving spirit are all traits that I carry with me. They have shaped me into the man I am today. Though my heart is heavy with grief, I take comfort in knowing that your suffering is gone and you are at peace. You may be gone from my sight Mom, but you will never, ever be gone from my heart. Your love left an imprint on my soul that time will never erase. I love you, I miss you, and I’ll carry your memory with me in everything I do. Rest peacefully Mom, until we meet again. Your son, James (Tommy) Howe, Jr.
Fufu, "Sa ka fet." Those were my greetings whenever we spoke on the phone. Today, we are here to celebrate your life - the life you lived and the legacy you built. I think back to the day you made the courageous decision to venture to the Virgin Islands, leaving me in the loving care of Nennen and Aunty V. Though it could not have been an easy decision, you did what you believed was best for our future. Throughout your life, you faced many challenges, yet you remained a fighter and a winner through every adversity.
Although we did not spend many years living together, your motherly love, concern, and willingness to provide were always present. I never doubted your selfless love. You were both the mother and the father I could always count on. When I finally made it to St. Thomas, your love and nurturing continued, but this time on an even greater scale. I was showered with your unconditional love every day. I was able to finally hug and kiss you for the first time. And, of course, I had the opportunity of enjoying the delicious meals you were so gifted at preparing.
Today, we gather not only to say goodbye but also to celebrate a life so beautifully lived. Though you have departed from this world, you will never be forgotten. Your love has been planted deep within our hearts. It will continue to blossom and bear fruit in the lives of your children, grandchildren, family, and everyone who was blessed to know you.
As I look back, I realize that the love you poured into me helped shape the person I have become. I will always remember your beautiful smile, your big, loving eyes, and the boundless love you gave so freely.
Ma, thank you for being you. Thank you for every sacrifice, every prayer, and every expression of love. I am going to miss you more than words can express. Life will never be the same without hearing your voice or sharing another laugh with you. Fufu, I love you, and I always will. Though you are no longer with us, your love and the impact you had on our lives will never be forgotten.
As you gracefully leave this world, may the love in our hearts be the wings that carry you to paradise. May our kisses be the gentle breeze that guides you into eternity, and may the memories we have shared forever bind our hearts until we are reunited once again.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Fufu. You will forever be loved, cherished, and remembered. ❤️❤️❤️ Your son, Randy Alcendor
I will always remember your special smile, your caring heart, and the warm hugs you gave me. Thank you for always being there for me through the good times and the hard times. No matter what, I will always remember you, Grandma, because no one could ever take your place in my heart. I will love you forever and miss you every day. Your princess, Jasme Howe
Grandma, you were one of the most important people in my life. You always knew how to make me smile, whether it was your hugs, your voice, or just us spending time together. You taught me how to be patient, caring, and kind more than anything else.
Even though you’re no longer here with us, the memories we shared will stay with me every day. I know I’ll be thinking about you during the big moments in my lift, and I wish I could tell you all about them. I’m grateful for every memory we made together. Thank you for believing in me and loving me unconditionally.
I love you, Grandma. You’ll never be forgotten. Your grandson, James Howe III, aka Toe-toe
Today, we celebrate the life of my beloved Aunty Fufu. Although my heart is filled with sadness, it is also filled with gratitude for the precious gift of her life and the love she shared.
Aunty Fufu was a woman of faith, who loved God with all her heart, and tried to live according to His word.
Although we are grieving her passing, we are comforted by God's promise of eternal life. I believe that Aunty has finished her earthly journey and is now resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord she loved and served.
Aunty, thank you for the love you gave. Your life was a blessing, your memory is a treasure, and your legacy will continue to live in our hearts.
May you rest in everlasting peace of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Until we meet again. Rest in peace, Heather Belle
You were always so kind and loving to me. Whenever you cooked, you never forgot to have a plate waiting for me because you knew I was usually nearby. Your home was a place of warmth, comfort, and welcome, and your generosity knew no bounds. No matter how little you had, you always found a way to stretch out your hand and share what you could.
I will always cherish your kindness, your laughter, and the love you showed so freely. The memories we shared will remain with me forever, and your beautiful spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you.

I felt a deep sense of sadness and profound emptiness when I received the call informing me that your beloved mother had passed away. No words can truly capture the sense of loss, knowing she will no longer be in your presence. It is a pain that you will carry with you, but the incredible love you have for your mom will continue to live on forever in your hearts.
