It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Maria Augusta Barbosa Vicente. She will be remembered for the joy, love, and warmth she brought into the lives of those around her. Her presence will be profoundly missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a legacy embodied by strength, perseverance, and unwavering care. Her selfless love touched everyone around her; nurturing her children, guiding her grandchildren, and caring for others as if they were her own. She will always be remembered for her open heart, her guidance, and the love she gave so freely.
Born in 1925 on the beautiful island of Fogo, Cabo Verde, she embodied strength and love. She raised her children on her own and ensured her family had everything they needed, whether it was food, clothing, shelter, or an education. She never gave up and worked tirelessly to give her children everything she could, despite the little she had.
In 1980, she made the brave decision to move to Boston, Massachusetts, in search of a better life and greater opportunities. Her unwavering love and care continued with an open heart and open arms as she helped raise those around her. She nurtured several generations, never wavering in her support, guiding her family even after her children had grown and married. Her love and guidance extended far beyond her own family, touching everyone around her and leaving a lasting impact on all those she cared for.
Augusta was a proud mother to six beautiful girls: Magda Barbosa Vicente, Isabel Barbosa Vicente, Maria Socorro Pereira, Maria Lurdes (Luta) Rodrigues, Maria Matilde (TiTi) Silveira, and Maria Ilse Vicente. She was a beloved grandmother of 24 grandchildren, a great-grandmother to 54 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandmother to six great-great-grandchildren, each of whom she guided, nurtured, and loved.
Her warmth, guidance, and love of dance will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. She was loved by many, forming deep friendships and everlasting bonds. Her life was a testament to love, perseverance, the strength of family, and endless care. She leaves behind a legacy that will live on through stories, traditions, and the values she instilled for generations to come.
She joins her three siblings and three children in eternal bliss.
May she rest in everlasting peace, forever in our hearts.
We thank you, Vovó, for all that you did.
We love you and miss you dearly.
