Rafael Leonidas "Leo" Santana Mejia

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rafael Leonidas “Leo” Santana Mejia, who passed away on August 6, 2026, at the age of 67.

Leo was born on January 28, 1959, in Baní, Dominican Republic, to Guillermina Aurora Mejia and Braulio Manuel Santana. He carried with him a deep love and pride for his Dominican roots throughout his life.

Above all, Leo was a family man. His children and family meant everything to him, and he took great pride in watching his family grow. He was a generous and caring person who never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it was a family member, a friend, or someone simply going through a difficult time, Leo had a heart for helping others. His kindness and generosity left an impression on the many people fortunate enough to know him.

Leo also had a special love for baseball and was a proud supporter of his beloved Leones del Escogido. His passion for his team was another connection to the Dominican Republic and the culture he carried proudly with him.

Leo leaves behind his children, Rafael Fermin, Alex Fermin, Angela Schatzl, Melissa Schatzl, Ruber Santana, and Daniel Santana, and his eight grandchildren, who will carry his memory and the lessons he gave them throughout their lives. He is also survived by his siblings, Maximo Santana, Victor Santana, and Julio Santana, along with extended family and many friends who loved him dearly.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Guillermina Aurora Mejia and Braulio Manuel Santana, and his siblings, Freddy Santana and Sobeida Santana.

Leo’s greatest legacy was not something he owned or accomplished, but the love he gave to his family and the kindness he showed to others. He leaves behind memories that will be cherished, stories that will continue to be told, and a family who will carry his love with them.

Though he is no longer with us, the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the family he was so proud of will keep his memory alive. 

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
