Rose Marie (Tate) Nicholas, was the heart of the family and brought joy and laughter into the room. She was known for her cooking and hosting family gatherings. She passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, in Boston, MA, at the age of 77 years old. Rose Marie was born on November 4, 1948, in Erie, Pennsylvania. The daughter of Minister Ruth Tate and the late Howard P. Tate, Senior. Those that knew Rose Marie knew she was extremely proud to be a Tate and from Erie, PA. Rose Marie had a smile and laughter that would light up a room.
She worked 28 years for the City of Boston as a bus driver. Rose Marie was dedicated to getting up early in the morning in order to get children safely to school. After retirement, she loved traveling, spending time with her family and pouring into her grandchildren. For many years, she hosted weekly Sunday dinners for her children and grandchildren. Rose Marie's favorite hobbies were going shopping and decorating her home. Recently, she came out of retirement to return to the Boston Public Schools as a lunch monitor. Rose Marie loved giving back to the children and the children loved her personality.
She was an active member of the Morning Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving as a member of the Nurse's Unit. Rose Marie was the Financial Secretary of the Nurses Unity. She served in the Pastor's Aid Ministry. Her trip of a lifetime was with Morning Star when they traveled to Jersaleum.
Rose Marie leaves behind her husband Sylvester Nicholas, along with her four children, Romona Ramsay, Robert (Tabitha) White Jr., Renita Haverly and Jonathan (Geraldine) White. The grandchildren that she cherished are Octavia White, Kristen Powers, Robert Scott White, Alexis Ramsay, Felice Haverly and Rhianna Haverly. She was a great grandmother to Jordyn Bigelow, Anthony Fava, Bryar White and Eleni White.
Rose Marie is survived by her mother, Minister Ruth Tate of Erie PA. She is also survived by her sisters, Maxine Overton of Erie, PA, Edna Tate of Boston and Sandra Burns of Erie, PA; and her brothers Howard Tate Jr. of Erie, PA, Raymond Tate of Waldorf, MD, Roger (Sylome) Tate of Wesley Chapel, Fl and Glen Duck of Erie, PA. As well as aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rose Marie had strong faith in God and loved reading the Bible, she demonstrated her faith by how she lived her life each day. She will deeply be missed by family and friends. Rose Marie's spirit will live alongside her Sister Priscilla Tate.
